This holiday season, the employees at VJS Construction Services, Inc. joined together to host a “Give for a Better Day” holiday drive. A large collection of games and toys were donated, which will provide countless hours of happiness for the youngest of patients going through treatment at Rogers Memorial Hospital over the holidays.
Many of our children and adolescents come from families who struggle with a variety of stressors on a daily basis. This time of year, many of them do not expect a whole lot under their tree. Yet through Rogers’ Angel Fund, the children are able take part in joyful holiday experiences: they decorate sugar cookies, complete a holiday craft project, work on gingerbread houses, take part in holiday games, and then they unwrap their presents. Some of our little ones in year’s past have asked us to re-wrap their gifts so they would have a present under the tree on Christmas or something to give a sibling. It’s a heartfelt day for everyone involved.
Almost 50 percent of patients at Rogers are children, and the Foundation ensures that every child going through treatment during the holidays participates in a group party and receives presents. This includes children in Rogers’ half-day programs in Kenosha, Brown Deer and Milwaukee. Combined, these treatment centers serve more than 200 children each day, many of whom come from some of Milwaukee’s most poverty-stricken neighborhoods. It’s also important to note that while the holidays are especially critical for children, the need for donations extend throughout the year – not only for children, but for all ages.
We invite you to do your own drive this holiday season! For more information or ideas, take a look at our wishlist.
